The Broadwater Academy Vikings will face off against the Atlantic Shores Christian Seahawks at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Broadwater Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
Broadwater Academy is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Greenbrier Christian Academy just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Tuesday. They came up short against the Gators, falling 15-2. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Vikings, who until this matchup were averaging 2.58 runs allowed.
Broadwater Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kacey Ford, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Atlantic Shores Christian). Everything went their way against Hampton Christian Academy two weeks ago as they made off with a 17-7 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Seahawks needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Alyssa Marraccini made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Marraccini was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Skylar Carter and Layla Berry did most of the damage at the plate: Carter went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and three RBI, while Berry went 3-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most stolen bases Carter has posted since back in April of 2024. Olivia Edenfield was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.
Atlantic Shores Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Broadwater Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 10-2. As for Atlantic Shores Christian, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Broadwater Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Atlantic Shores Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Broadwater Academy took their win against Atlantic Shores Christian in their previous meeting on April 1st by a conclusive 14-1 score. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Seahawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
