Basketball Preview: Mitchell Mustangs vs. Springstead Eagles
Two dominant guards in Ben Unger and Austin Nicholson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Mitchell Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the Springstead Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mitchell has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
Mitchell scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 106-82 margin over Central. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Meanwhile, even though Zephyrhills scored an imposing 57 points on Friday, Springstead still came out on top. Springstead managed a 61-57 victory over the Bulldogs. The win made it back-to-back wins for Springstead.
Nick Cordero continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 17 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Sayre, who scored 13 points along with two steals.
Mitchell's victory bumped their record up to 12-13. As for Springstead, they pushed their record up to 15-9 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home.
Things could have been worse for Mitchell, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 66-52 loss to the Eagles in their previous meeting back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Nicholson, who scored 24 points along with five assists. Now that Mitchell knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
