Softball Recap: Abington Heights Takes Down Ranked North Pocono

Abington Heights faced North Pocono in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Comets sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the Trojans. The Comets haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Laurenp Stalica was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adrianna Condrad, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That triple was her first of the season. Hunter Kresge was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Abington Heights hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive contests.

Abington Heights' record is now 7-1-1. As for North Pocono, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 10-2.

Looking ahead, Abington Heights will square off against Scranton at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Comets are facing the Knights at the right time seeing as the Knights are stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for North Pocono, they will challenge Valley View at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Trojans are on a ten-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), the Cougars a five-game streak of away wins, meaning someone's leaving a streak behind.
