Softball Recap: Wheeler Now 5-1 over Last Six Games

Wheeler won against Whiting on Friday with ten runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Saturday. The Bearcats came out on top against the Portage Indians by a score of 10-7. That's more bragging rights for the Bearcats, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Cadence Piunti made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Wheeler let Olivia Hessling and Faith Kromray run wild. Hessling went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one run, while Kromray went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Wheeler has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Portage, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wheeler will head out to face off against River Forest at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Portage, they will venture away from home to take on Merrillville at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
