Volleyball Game Preview: Glenbrook North Spartans vs. Deerfield Warriors

The Glenbrook North Spartans will square off against the Deerfield Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Glenbrook North is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Illinois' top teams: New Trier, who was ranked 18th at the time (Glenbrook North was ranked 11th). The Spartans sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Trevians on Wednesday. Winning may never get old, but the Spartans sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Glenbrook North had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 18-25, 25-15, 26-24.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Glenbrook North to victory, but perhaps none more so than Morgan Choi, who had 15 digs and one assist. That's the most digs Choi has posted over her last 11 matches. The team also got some help courtesy of Habin Park, who had nine digs and two aces.

Meanwhile, Deerfield posted their closest win since September 13th on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Mundelein 2-1.

Deerfield had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. The match finished with set scores of 22-25, 25-22, 25-16.

Glenbrook North's win bumped their record up to 24-2. As for Deerfield, their victory bumped their record up to 13-18.

Glenbrook North was able to grind out a solid win over Deerfield when the teams last played back in September, winning 2-0. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
