Softball Game Preview: Bret Harte Bullfrogs vs. Riverbank Bruins

The Bret Harte Bullfrogs will face off against the Riverbank Bruins at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Bret Harte fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Summerville on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bears by a score of 3-2.

Madison Kane spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 12 Ks. Those 12 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Rylee Banks was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

Meanwhile, Riverbank was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They lost 14-4 to Linden.

Alexis Felix made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Valeria Rosas, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Bret Harte's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Riverbank, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-14-1.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Bret Harte has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Riverbank struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Bret Harte might still be hurting after the 13-2 loss they got from Riverbank in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Bullfrogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
