Morningside Academy triumphant thanks to a strong effort from Damon Folds

Recap: Morningside Academy Eagles vs. Olympic Heights Lions

Even though the Olympic Heights Lions scored an imposing 72 points on Monday, the Morningside Academy Eagles still came out on top. Morningside Academy slipped by Olympic Heights 73-72. Winning is a bit easier when your three-point shooting is a whole 22% better than the opposition, as Morningside Academy's was.

Damon Folds was his usual excellent self, scoring 37 points along with five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Elijah Clifford, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Despite the loss, Olympic Heights still got an impressive performance from Harrison Cohen, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 rebounds. Cohen hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. Jake Harbatkin was another key contributor, scoring 23 points.

Even though they lost, Olympic Heights smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Morningside Academy has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. As for Olympic Heights, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Morningside Academy won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Melbourne Central Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. Melbourne Central Catholic is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games. As for Olympic Heights, they will head out on the road to face off against Spanish River at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Spanish River is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
