Baseball Recap: Riverdale Takes a Loss

Riverdale fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Bureau Valley on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Storm by a score of 7-6. The Rams were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Storm apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Colton Huffman put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over 7.1 innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits. Huffman was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Austin Nadolson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in four of his six plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Jackson Fritch was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Riverdale has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. As for Bureau Valley, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 16-4.

Riverdale wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 7-6 victory against Orion on the 24th. As for Bureau Valley, they have also already played their next match, an 8-0 win against Galva on the 24th.
