Newton waltzed into their game on Thursday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Paris Tigers a 1-0 shutout. That's more bragging rights for the Eagles, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Not much got past Drake Wolf, who gave up just two hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Paris off the board. Wolf also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Newton is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 7-8 otherwise.

At the plate, Newton's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was David Ferguson, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Newton pushed their record up to 11-9 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Paris, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season.

Newton will square off against Marshall at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Paris, they will face off against Oakwood at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
