Baseball Recap: Athens Has No Trouble Against Troy

Troy typically has all the answers at home, but on Wednesday Athens proved too difficult a challenge. They blew past the Colts 8-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Red Hawks have posted against the Colts since May 5, 2023.

Nick Rossi and Sam Link made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Rossi pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Link tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Athens is 3-1 when Rossi allows one or fewer hits, but 1-4 otherwise. At the plate, Rossi went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double, while Link went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Mathew Schriber was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Athens' win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-5. As for Troy, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Athens will venture away from home to square off against Clarkston at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Wolves will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Red Hawks surely won't give up without a fight. As for Troy, they will head out to challenge Bloomfield Hills at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Colts 4.1, the Black Hawks 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
