Softball Recap: Hutsonville/Palestine Comes Up Short

Hutsonville/Palestine dropped their record down to 14-8 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of Richland County by a score of 8-7. Hutsonville/Palestine was not able to make up for their defeat to Richland County from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Hayden Monan put in work while hitting and pitching. She pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Lily Holcomb led a balanced group of hitters, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Brynn Griffin was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

As for Richland County, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since May 13, 2024.

On Richland County's side, the team relied heavily on Jaylen Gwyn, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most hits Gwyn has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Clara Williams, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

Looking ahead, Hutsonville/Palestine will take on Robinson at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Richland County, they will square off against Carmi-White County at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
