Basketball Recap: Buford Takes a Loss

Buford lost against Cheraw back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Buford Yellow Jackets were outmatched by the Cheraw Braves and fell 52-23. While losing is never fun, the Yellow Jackets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 247th, while the Braves are ranked 119th).

Sa'Nya Murray had a dynamite game for Cheraw, going 6 for 11 en route to 17 points and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Cherita Burns, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 13 points and four steals.

Buford has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for Cheraw, they pushed their record up to 14-6 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Buford will square off against Andrew Jackson at 6:00 p.m. on February 4th. Andrew Jackson knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 13 games -- so hopefully Buford likes a good challenge. Cheraw has already played their next contest, a 57-27 win against North Central on the 31st.
