Baseball Recap: Sweeny Snags 13th Victory in Last 15 Games

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Sweeny walked away with it. They never let the Rockport-Fulton Pirates get on the board and left with a 7-0 victory on Friday. Seven seems to be a good number for the Bulldogs as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

The team relied heavily on Holt Blessing, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. Cale Newsom was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

Sweeny is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-10-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Rockport-Fulton, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-15-1.

Sweeny will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Pirates: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
