The Pleasant Grove Vikings will square off against the Maple Mountain Eagles at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pleasant Grove is coming into the contest hot, having won their last ten games.
Pleasant Grove is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Payson, who was ranked 21st at the time (Pleasant Grove was ranked eighth). The Vikings put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 12-2 victory on Friday. Considering the Vikings have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Keaton Nordick was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out 13 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Pleasant Grove let Nash Clement and Conner Ybarra run wild. Clement went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Ybarra went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three RBI gave Ybarra a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryder Huntsman, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Pleasant Grove kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Maple Mountain didn't have quite enough to beat Springville on Friday and fell 8-7.
Cayden Giles was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Pleasant Grove's win bumped their record up to 15-6. As for Maple Mountain, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Pleasant Grove has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Maple Mountain struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Pleasant Grove got the 'W' when the teams last played back in March of 2025 against Maple Mountain by a conclusive 7-0 score. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
