Soccer Game Preview: Wheeling vs. Proviso East

The Wheeling Wildcats will venture away from home to challenge the Proviso East Pirates at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Wheeling's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for four straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

It was a proper cat-fight when Wheeling took on Conant on Wednesday. The Wildcats lost 4-0 to the Cougars.

Meanwhile, after soaring to nine goals the game before, Proviso East was a bit more limited in their matchup on Tuesday. They came up short against Addison Trail, falling 9-0. While losing is never fun, Proviso East can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings (they are ranked 327th, while Addison Trail are ranked 82nd).

Wheeling's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Proviso East, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.

Wheeling skirted past Proviso East 1-0 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
