Soccer Game Preview: Herndon vs. George C. Marshall

The Herndon Hornets are taking a road trip to take on the George C. Marshall Statesmen at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Herndon will be strutting in after a victory while George C. Marshall will be coming in after a loss.

Herndon will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any goals on Thursday, then bounced right back against Fairfax on Monday. The Hornets' defense stepped up to hand the Lions a 4-0 shutout. Herndon haven't had any issues with Fairfax recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Meanwhile, George C. Marshall was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against Wakefield, falling 4-1. While losing is never fun, George C. Marshall can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked 218th, while Wakefield are ranked 74th).

Herndon now has a winning record of 5-4. As for George C. Marshall, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7-2.

Herndon came out on top in a nail-biter against George C. Marshall in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
