Baseball Recap: Campo Verde Comes Up Short

Campo Verde extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 12-11 in the process. They fell 8-5 to the Desert Mountain Wolves. The Coyotes were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wolves apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Campo Verde got a good showing from Gavin Lambright, who tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Lambright has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ezekiel Zion made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run and one double. That home run was his first of the season.

As for Desert Mountain, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-14. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games.

On Desert Mountain's side, Zach Gerber looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits.

At the plate, Quentin Starbuck was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Desert Mountain is 8-1 when Starbuck posts two or more runs, but 3-13 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Leo Kearns, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

While Campo Verde had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
