Softball Game Preview: Mission Vista vs. Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns

Mission Vista will take on the Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with nine consecutive losses for Mission Vista and three for Rancho Buena Vista.

Torrey Pines hit Mission Vista with a four-run seventh inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. Mission Vista fell just short of Torrey Pines by a score of 7-6.

Baylie O'Neill was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple was her first of the season.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Rancho Buena Vista and Carlsbad meet (six straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. The Longhorns fell just short of the Lancers by a score of 2-1.

Allison Keusch spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Rancho Buena Vista saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abigail Niwata, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one double.

Mission Vista's loss dropped their record down to 5-16. As for Rancho Buena Vista, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-11.
