Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask University City). They skirted past the San Diego Cavers 8-7. Winning may never get old, but the Centurions sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Josh Kaplan was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Ethan Antenore was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
University City pushed their record up to 9-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. As for San Diego, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-7 record.
Looking ahead, University City will take on Helix in a tournament on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (University City 1.5, Helix 4) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for San Diego, they will be playing at home against Calexico at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Calexico's pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so San Diego's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
