The St. Vincent de Paul Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Maria Carrillo Pumas at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
St. Vincent de Paul can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent game on Friday. They claimed a resounding 55-7 win over Healdsburg on the road. Given St. Vincent de Paul's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 320th, while Healdsburg is ranked 879th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
St. Vincent de Paul found their leader in underclassman Gabe Casanovas, who rushed for 84 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries, and also threw for 203 yards and four touchdowns on only 15 passes. Casanovas hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for five straight games. Mason Caturegli got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Maria Carrillo entered their tilt with Saint Mary's with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Maria Carrillo took down Saint Mary's 31-14 on Friday.
St. Vincent de Paul's win was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 7-2. As for Maria Carrillo, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
St. Vincent de Paul took their victory against Maria Carrillo when the teams last played back in November of 2022 by a conclusive 28-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. Vincent de Paul since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
