Baseball Game Preview: Cardinal Newman Cardinals vs. Lexington Wildcats

The Cardinal Newman Cardinals will take on the Lexington Wildcats in a tournament on Tuesday.

Monday just wasn't the day for Cardinal Newman's offense. They lost 16-0 to Miller School of Albemarle on Monday. The Cardinals' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, Lexington came tearing into Monday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Demons 9-1.

Lexington pushed their record up to 11-6-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Cardinal Newman, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.

Cardinal Newman might still be hurting after the 10-1 loss they got from Lexington in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Cardinals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
