Recap: Mauldin Mavericks vs. Hillcrest Rams

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Mauldin Mavericks ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 64-61 win over Hillcrest. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mauldin to victory, but perhaps none more so than Braden Hershberger, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds. Hershberger hasn't dropped below 15points for six straight games. Nathan Wilbourne was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.

The victory makes it two in a row for Mauldin and bumps their season record up to 9-10. As for Hillcrest, they bumped their record down to 5-14 with that loss, which was their tenth straight on the road.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mauldin will take on Woodmont at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hillcrest, they will be playing in front of their home fans against J.L. Mann at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. J.L. Mann knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully Hillcrest likes a good challenge.
