Football Game Preview: Lehi Pioneers vs. Lone Peak Knights

The Lehi Pioneers will head out to square off against the Lone Peak Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lone Peak took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Lehi, who comes in off a win.

Lehi is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: American Fork, who was ranked eighth at the time (Lehi was ranked ninth). The Pioneers put the hurt on the Cavemen with a sharp 26-3 win on Friday. Considering the Pioneers have won five games by more than 22 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, Lone Peak fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Skyridge on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 37-34. The Knights have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Lehi will need to focus on slowing down Jaron Pula, one of several Lone Peak players who made an impact when they last played. He picked up 175 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. With that strong performance, Pula is now averaging an impressive 102.7 receiving yards per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Cruz Christensen, who threw for 338 yards and two TDs.

Special teams played a big role in the game for Lone Peak, adding 16 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Isaac Fonua, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Lone Peak's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Lehi, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 5-3.

Lehi couldn't quite finish off Lone Peak in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 and fell 24-21. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Knights' Kepa Niumeitolu, who threw for 194 yards and three touchdowns on only 18 passes, and also rushed for 72 yards.
