Baseball Game Preview: Messalonskee Eagles vs. Mt. Blue Cougars

The Messalonskee Eagles will challenge the Mt. Blue Cougars at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Messalonskee is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

Messalonskee will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Oxford Hills, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Eagles skirted past the Vikings 3-1.

The team relied heavily on Ty Bernier, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI. That stolen base was his first of the season. Logan Baron was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run.

Brunswick hit Mt. Blue with a four-run seventh inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Cougars fell 8-4 to the Dragons.

Nolan Leso was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). Leso was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Dane Cousineau and Thomas Cormier did some serious damage despite the final result: Cousineau went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run, while Cormier got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Messalonskee's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-0. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Mt. Blue, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Messalonskee took their victory against Mt. Blue in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 12-4 score. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
