Volleyball Recap: Haverhill Hillies vs. Billerica Memorial Indians
Haverhill extended their losing streak to five on Wednesday, dropping them down to 3-5. They came up short against the Billerica Memorial Indians, falling 3-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Hillies of the 3-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2024.
Lucy Martinez paced Haverhill's offense, picking up nine kills. Martinez got some help from Olivia Lesswing and her 15 assists. Finally, Leah Terroux kept Haverhill's defense grounded, leading the team with three blocks.
As for Billerica Memorial, they moved to 2-7 with that victory, which also ended their four-match losing streak. They not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since November 6, 2024 (when they won 3-0).
Billerica Memorial can attribute much of their success to Makayla Sibert, who had 13 digs and five aces. That's the most digs Sibert has posted over her last seven matchups. Layla Alexis also deserves some recognition as she served her first ace of the season.
Haverhill has already played their next contest, a 3-2 win against North Andover on the 26th. As for Billerica Memorial, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 victory against Lawrence on the 26th.
