Basketball Recap: Owen Valley Takes a Loss

Owen Valley lost against North Vermillion back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Owen Valley Patriots were outmatched by the North Vermillion Falcons and fell 67-34. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 361st, while the Falcons are ranked 153rd).

Owen Valley's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rhet Heckman, who posted five points and eight rebounds. Jesse Durnil was another key player, putting up six points.

Owen Valley's defeat was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-7. As for North Vermillion, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.

Owen Valley will square off against Covenant Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Covenant Christian will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Owen Valley surely won't give up without a fight. As for North Vermillion, they will take on South Newton at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. North Vermillion is facing South Newton at the right time seeing as South Newton is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
