Baseball Recap: Mt. Vernon Find Success

Mt. Vernon hadn't done well against Tell City recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Wildcats sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over the Marksmen. This was payback for the Wildcats, who suffered a 3-0 loss the last time these two teams met.

Nathan Howard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Easton Hall was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Campbell, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Mt. Vernon is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-13 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Tell City, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mt. Vernon will challenge Pike Central at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Chargers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed nine runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Tell City, they will face off against Tecumseh at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
