Cardinal Gibbons is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Park Vista is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Chiefs will host the Cobras at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Cardinal Gibbons 2.1, Park Vista 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Cardinal Gibbons was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Calvary Christian Academy on Friday. The Chiefs put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 10-3 win. Considering the Chiefs have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Madison Leonard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Morgan Beavers and Dakota Williams did most of the damage at the plate: Beavers got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI, while Williams scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Skylar Flack was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Cardinal Gibbons always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. The last time their OBP was this high was back in February.
Meanwhile, Park Vista sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over Dwyer back in March. The Cobras haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.
Angeline Mergen made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits. Mergen was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hannah Durante, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Keaganne Glidden, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Cardinal Gibbons has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.4 runs over those games. As for Park Vista, their win bumped their record up to 12-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Cardinal Gibbons has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Park Vista struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Cardinal Gibbons suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Park Vista in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Will the Chiefs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
