Softball Recap: Houston's Luck Changes for the Better on Tuesday

Houston can bid farewell to their 13-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They blew past the Louisville Wildcats 14-2. The Hilltoppers' offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last ten games.

Ciara Griffin made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in February. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grace Jones, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Peysley Russell, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Houston always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Louisville only posted an OBP of .412.

Houston's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 6-16. As for Louisville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-7-1 record this season.

Houston will have a chance to go back-to-back against Louisville: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
