Softball Game Preview: Montcalm Generals vs. Cross Lanes Christian Warriors

The Montcalm Generals will square off against the Cross Lanes Christian Warriors at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Having struggled with five defeats in a row, Montcalm turned things around against Van on Thursday. They came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 10-6. The Generals' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

The home team had come away the winner the last five times Cross Lanes Christian and Van had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Warriors were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Bulldogs on Friday. Considering the Warriors have won five matchups by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Cassidy Witt made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, Izzy Harper and Jenna Naramore did most of the damage at the plate: Harper went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Naramore went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI Harper has posted since back in March. Mary Franke was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Cross Lanes Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Van only posted an OBP of .217.

The victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-7. As for Cross Lanes Christian, their win bumped their record up to 7-5.
