Highlands and Uwharrie Charter Academy squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Highlands had to settle for second. They took a 47-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Uwharrie Charter Academy Eagles. The Highlanders' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

It was another big night for Nevaeh Staples, who went 6-for-12 on her way to 20 points and eight boards for Uwharrie Charter Academy. Staples' evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Kayla Brown, who almost dropped a double-double with ten points and nine rebounds.

Highlands' loss dropped their record down to 14-11. As for Uwharrie Charter Academy, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-7.

Highlands does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Uwharrie Charter Academy, they will square off against Albemarle at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Albemarle knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 18 contests -- so hopefully Uwharrie Charter Academy likes a good challenge.
