ThunderRidge (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) captured the lead in the fourth quarter and held on for a 21-17 victory over
Grandview (Aurora, Colo.) on Saturday. The Grizzlies captured the lead for good when
Jake Hand ran for a touchdown.
After trailing 14-10 at the half, the Wolves went ahead on a passing touchdown with 4:00 left in the third. ThunderRidge finally took the lead for good as Hand ran for a touchdown with 3:00 to go in the fourth quarter.
By the end of the third, THS found itself trailing by 3 points as Grandview captured the lead thanks to one score in the quarter. GHS scored on a passing touchdown in the quarter.
The loss snapped the Aurora school's 4-game winning streak.
Hand stood out for the Highlands Ranch school in the win. He ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored 17 touchdowns on the season.
Coming into the game the Grizzlies had allowed 26.5 points per game this year. The defense really stepped up, holding the Wolves well below their season average of 33.6 points scored per game.
The defeat comes as a step back for Grandview, which notched a 48-14 victory over Fountain-Fort Carson in its previous outing.
