Baseball Game Preview: Caledonia Warriors vs. Zumbrota-Mazeppa Cougars

The Caledonia Warriors will face off against the Zumbrota-Mazeppa Cougars at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Caledonia is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.

Caledonia lost a heartbreaker the last time they played La Crescent, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's match. The Warriors were the clear victors by a 13-6 margin over the Lancers on Tuesday. Considering the Warriors have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Caledonia let Tyson Ginther and Reid Klug run wild. Ginther went 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one double, while Klug got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave Ginther a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Schmitz, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Caledonia kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Zumbrota-Mazeppa fell victim to Kasson-Mantorville and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They lost 6-0 to the Komets. The game marked the first time this season in which the Cougars were not able to get on the board.

Caledonia is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Zumbrota-Mazeppa, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season.
