Baseball Recap: Iona Prep Takes a Loss

Iona Prep had lost five straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 24-8-1 to make it six. They took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Archbishop Molloy Stanners. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Stanners this season, with their most recent loss being a 10-5 defeat last Saturday.

As for Archbishop Molloy, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 32-6-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games.

For Archbishop Molloy's part, Liam Brower tossed a big game, pitching 5.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits.

At the plate, Archbishop Molloy let Ayden Roman and Dylan Payano run wild. Roman went 2-for-3 with one home run and three runs, while Payano got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave Payano a new career-high. Charlie Lods was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Iona Prep beat Archbishop Molloy by a score of 8-2 on Friday.
