Preview: Maeser Prep Academy Lions vs. Grand County Red Devils
The Maeser Prep Academy Lions will head out on the road to face off against the Grand County Red Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Maeser Prep Academy is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
Last Thursday, things could have been worse for Maeser Prep Academy, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 39-21 loss to American Leadership Academy.
The losing side was boosted by Autumn Dossey, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 rebounds. She hasn't dropped below 14 rebounds for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Octavia Mosher, who scored five points along with seven rebounds and three blocks.
Meanwhile, Grand County can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent game on Thursday. Everything went their way against San Juan as Grand County made off with a 66-40 victory. Grand County pushed the score to 49-29 by the end of the third, a deficit San Juan had little chance of recovering from.
Grand County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cadence Kasprick, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Kasprick hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. Rhiannon Hren was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds.
Maeser Prep Academy's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-18. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 22.3 points per game. As for Grand County, their win bumped their record up to 11-8.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Maeser Prep Academy have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 31.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Grand County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 36.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Maeser Prep Academy came up short against Grand County when the teams last played back in November of 2021, falling 53-46. Thankfully for Maeser Prep Academy, Megan Zunich (who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and four steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
