Softball Recap: Kentwood Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

There's no place like home for Kentwood, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Auburn Trojans on Wednesday. That looming 16-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Conquerors yet this season.

Kaitlyn Vert made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gabby Greenwood, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Sofia Mottern Salinas was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Kentwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .676. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Kentwood moved to 4-12 with that victory, which also ended their six-game losing streak. As for Auburn, they dropped their record down to 3-17 with the defeat, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Kentwood will head out to challenge Kennedy Catholic at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Lancers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.43 runs per game on average), something the Conquerors will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Auburn, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Stadium at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
