Baseball Recap: Sam Houston Comes Up Short

Sam Houston extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 20 on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-14. They lost 13-0 to the Jefferson Mustangs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-0 back in March.

Sam Houston saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Terrence Cunningham, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.

As for Jefferson, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-9-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games.

On Jefferson's side, Victor Carrillo-Sanchez tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave Carrillo-Sanchez a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Dylan Caffey was a standout: he got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Aiden Urdiales, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
