Basketball Recap: Butler's Run of Four Straight Wins Now Over

It was a good run, but Butler unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Monday. They fell 52-44 to the Lincoln-Way Central Knights. The Lynx were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Knights apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why Butler lost, don't look at Xyanna Walton. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 25 points and 16 rebounds. Walton's afternoon made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Cyra Conwell was another key player, putting up ten points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Butler smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 12 consecutive matches.

Butler's defeat dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Lincoln-Way Central, they moved to 5-8 with that victory, which also ended their seven-game losing streak.

Butler and Taft will round out the year against one another at at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday. As for Lincoln-Way Central, they will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Mother McAuley at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
