Football Game Preview: Savannah Savages vs. Maryville Spoofhounds

Savannah is 1-9 against Maryville since October of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Savages will take on the Spoofhounds at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Savannah sitting on seven straight victories and Maryville on six.

Savannah's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They breezed past Chillicothe to the tune of 35-0. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Savages' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri football rankings (they are ranked 50th, while the Hornets are ranked 204th).

Aiden Knechtenhofer looked great while leading his team to the win, rushing for 91 yards and two TDs on only 11 carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Savannah was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 221 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 221 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Savannah didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Jackson Dudeck.

Meanwhile, Lutheran North kept up with Maryville until halftime on Friday, but afterwards: not so much. The Spoofhounds were the clear victors by a 37-15 margin over the Crusaders. Considering the Spoofhounds have won four contests by more than 21 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Savannah's record is now 7-0. As for Maryville, their record now sits at 6-1.

Everything came up roses for Savannah against Maryville when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 42-14 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Savages since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
