Football Recap: Clinton Picks Up Fourth Straight Win at Home

Clinton hadn't done well against Oak Grove recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Cardinals snuck past the Panthers with a 20-14 victory. Those 20 points were actually the fewest the Cardinals have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

The critical scores for Clinton came from Connor Bramell, Payton Goth, and Quintin Faught.

Clinton was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 261 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 162 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Clinton's defense made their presence known, laying out Luke Schartz five times. In that department, Mason Shumate was the leader with two sacks. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with six.

Despite the loss, Oak Grove saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Waylon Weir picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made ten total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Clinton pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 7.0 points on average over those games. As for Oak Grove, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Clinton didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-0 win against Pleasant Hope/Halfway on the 3rd. As for Oak Grove, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 34-8 victory against Center on the 3rd.
