Baseball Game Preview: Red Hook Raiders vs. Wallkill Panthers

Red Hook is 0-10 against Wallkill since April of 2016 but things could change on Wednesday. The Raiders will host the Panthers at 4:15 p.m.

Red Hook came up short against Our Lady of Lourdes on Tuesday, falling 14-2.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wallkill). Everything went their way against Spackenkill on Tuesday as they made off with a 16-4 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what the Panthers needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Bryce Buchalter tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ryan Mayer, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Wallkill is undefeated when Mayer posts two or more runs, but 3-7 otherwise. Zach Kantor was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Wallkill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .619. The last time their OBP was this high was back in May of 2024.

Wallkill now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Red Hook, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.

Red Hook might still be hurting after the 8-2 defeat they got from Wallkill in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Raiders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
