Football Recap: Northfield Piles Up the Points Against Denver East

Northfield got themselves on the board against Denver East on Saturday, but Denver East never followed suit. They blew past the Angels 30-0. Considering the Nighthawks have won three matches by more than 29 points this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

One reason for the win was Northfield's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Grettel Gonzalez, Ainsley Mitzo, and Morgan Pauley, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Northfield's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-0. The road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 2.0 points on average over those games. As for Denver East, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Northfield will take on rival Vista PEAK Prep at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Nighthawks 2.4, the Bison 10.2) so any points scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Denver East is set to square off against their familiar foe Denver South at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
