Basketball Recap: Parker Kines' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Wheatmore over Providence Grove

If Wheatmore was feeling good fresh off their 56-34 takedown of Southwestern Randolph last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The game between the Wheatmore Warriors and the Providence Grove Patriots didn't end well, with the Wheatmore Warriors falling 71-54. The Warriors haven't had much luck with the Patriots recently, as the team's come up short the last nine times they've met.

Wheatmore lost on Tuesday despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Parker Kines, who went 6 for 14 on his way to 16 points. His evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Weston Driggers, who posted 12 points and three blocks.

Providence Grove was led to victory by Will Dabbs and Andrew Thomas. Dabbs had 21 points in addition to seven assists and seven boards, while Thomas went 7 of 16 to rack up 19 points and three steals. Thomas is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 19 or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Collins, who earned 12 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Wheatmore's defeat dropped their record down to 9-14. As for Providence Grove, their win bumped their record up to 11-12.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wheatmore will face off against Uwharrie Charter Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Providence Grove, they will square off against Eastern Randolph at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Eastern Randolph knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 15 matches -- so hopefully Providence Grove likes a good challenge.
