Preview: Rio Vista Eagles vs. Kerens Bobcats
The Rio Vista Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Kerens Bobcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Rio Vista is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Rio Vista never got on the board in their last matchup, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Cross Roads last Friday. Rio Vista walked away with a 32-22 win over Cross Roads.
Ashton Huey was on fire: he rushed for 149 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries, and also picked up 39 receiving yards. Huey's longest rush was for an incredible 87 yards. Blaine Briscoe was in the mix too, providing Rio Vista with two touchdowns.
Rio Vista's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Anthony Zepeda and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Kerens suffered a rough 48-28 defeat at the hands of Cayuga two weeks ago. Kerens has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite their loss, Kerens saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Lane Lynch, who threw for 260 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 11.3 yards per attempt, was perhaps the best of all. Lynch is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last three games he's played. Muziq Gunnell did his part for the team as well, scoring a TD off of 76 receiving yards.
Rio Vista's win lifted them to 2-5 while Kerens' loss dropped them down to 3-4.
Rio Vista took their win against Kerens in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 by a conclusive 49-26. The rematch might be a little tougher for Rio Vista since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
