Softball Recap: Edina Takes a Loss

After flying high against Buffalo on Friday, Edina came back down to earth. The Hornets fell just short of the Owatonna Huskies by a score of 6-5 on Tuesday. The Hornets' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Kenzie Cox and Grace Duwenhoegger did some serious damage despite the final result: Cox went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run, while Duwenhoegger went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Cox has been hot recently, having posted at least one triple the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ella Meyer, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Edina's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Owatonna, the win got them back to even at 5-5.

Edina and Owatonna could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Minnesota Rankings. The Hornets will take on Minnetonka at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank disadvantage (60 vs. 3). Meanwhile, Owatonna (ranked 121st) will meet Mankato East (ranked 13th) at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
