Baseball Recap: Grant County Comes Up Short

Grant County suffered their closest loss since May 13, 2024 on Saturday. They fell just short of the Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds by a score of 11-9. The Braves have struggled against the Thoroughbreds recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Colton Alexander and Seth Tucker stepped up to the plate in a big way. Alexander scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while Tucker went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That home run marked the first that Tucker launched this season. Xavier Camacho was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Grant County lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Grant County's defeat dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Newport Central Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.

Coming up, Grant County will head out to challenge Frankfort at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The last five games Frankfort has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Newport Central Catholic, they have already played their next match, a 6-3 loss against Harrison County on the 29th.
