Softball Recap: Lakeview Takes a Loss

Lakeview extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 12-16. They fell 15-10 to the Saranac Redskins. Even if the Wildcats couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Katelyn Buchner made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four stolen bases, and four runs. Madi Bristol was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

As for Saranac, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-9. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games.

On Saranac's side, Alexis Smus was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave Smus a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Abby Ferguson, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lakeview will take on Hesperia at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.36 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Saranac, they will head out on the road to square off against Ionia at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
