Baseball Recap: Seton Catholic Victorious

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Seton Catholic had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They came out on top against the Randolph Southern Rebels by a score of 8-3. The game was the first time the Cardinals have beaten the Rebels on their field since May 26, 2021.

Tyson Tremain spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits. He is becoming a predictor of Seton Catholic's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 6-3 (and 1-9 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Seton Catholic saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Taeon Tate, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs. The Cardinals are 6-1 when Tate posts two or more runs, but 1-11 otherwise.

Seton Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-12 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Randolph Southern, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-19.

Looking ahead, Seton Catholic will square off against Union City at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Cardinals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Indians have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season. Randolph Southern does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
