Baseball Game Preview: Patrick Henry Patriots vs. Edgerton Bulldogs

The Patrick Henry Patriots will venture away from home to face off against the Edgerton Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Patrick Henry has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Edgerton will arrive with three straight victories.

Saturday just wasn't the day for Patrick Henry's offense. They fell 5-0 to Napoleon on Saturday. Considering the last time the Patriots couldn't score was back in April, the team can't take the result too hard.

Meanwhile, Edgerton won against Stryker on Monday with 13 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Bulldogs blew past Continental 13-3.

Braden Leppelmeier made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Edgerton let Maddox Baker and Jackson Flower run wild. Baker went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Flower got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Flower has become a key player for Edgerton: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Kellen Sanchez, who earned two runs and one stolen base.

Edgerton hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Continental struck out nine times.

Edgerton's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-9. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Patrick Henry, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-11.

Patrick Henry came up short against Edgerton when the teams last played back in May of 2022, falling 8-5. Can the Patriots avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
