Basketball Recap: Portal Panthers vs. Bryan County Redskins
The Portal Panthers lost against the Bryan County Redskins back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Portal was outmatched by the Redskins at home and fell 66-37. While losing is never fun, Portal can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 396th, while the Redskins are ranked 96th).
Leading Bryan County to victory were Jasmine Mikell and Kayley Wedlow. Mikell scored 15 points along with four steals, while Wedlow scored 19 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Wedlow is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Portal dropped their record down to 8-14 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Bryan County, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Portal will take on the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Emanuel County Institute has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 5. As for Bryan County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Saints at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Vincent's is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
